What is the history of the Great Dunmow Maltings & its artefacts? At night you can hear footsteps & voices in the museum. We are keen to find out more about the building & the stories it has to tell.

Join us for our first public investigation of Great Dunmow Maltings!
This beautiful Grade II listed building dates back to the 16th Century & was in use until its closure in the 1940’s. They used the traditional method of turning barley by hand.

It is also home to the Great Dunmow Museum & displays many historical artefacts including the Flitch Chair used in the famous Flitch Trials which takes place every leap year. Also on display is the 1850 Great Dunmow fire engine & the Fordham Lantern Clock built in the town by John Fordham in 1710. Great Dunmow is a historic market town dating back to Roman times.
